Lillian Jean (Barnes) Lucas

Lillian Jean (Barnes) Lucas, 84, of Mentor, passed away on October 26, 2018 at Lake West Medical Center, Willoughby. She was born November 23, 1933 in Bellaire, Ohio. Lillian grew up in McMechen, WV, where she met her husband, Edward (Ebby) Lucas and had her daughter, Rebecca. Later they moved to Cleveland, where she worked for Euclid General Hospital and later Mednet as a medical transcriptionist. After losing her husband, daughter and son-in-law, Lillian moved to Mentor in 1984 while trying to provide the best for her granddaughter Courtney, who she raised on her own. She also took care of her mother, Becky, who was her best friend. Lillian loved taking trips with her family-especially out west, going to craft shows, reading, shopping in North Carolina, playing games on her iPad, getting together with extended family, and playing with her great-grandsons Huxley and Jonah. She was always interested in making connections with others and did whatever she could to better the lives of those she loved. She was an avid quilter, crafter and seamstress, and was always helping her friends. She attended Mentor Christian Church during her time in Mentor. Kind, loving, caring, tough, sweet, funny, pragmatic, strong, wise, talented, warm and welcoming; Lillian was all these in a 5-foot-tall woman with a heart filled with love for all. She was a thoughtful friend and parishioner, giving her time and talents always. She was the best Mom, Grandma, and Great-grandma all in one little package. Courageous and resilient through tragedies, Lillian rejoiced in life’s goodness and showed others how to accept what is and make the most of our time here. We are all richer for being in her life. She is survived by her granddaughter Courtney (Josh) Boyle, great-grandsons Huxley and Jonah Boyle, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lucas, her parents Rebecca and Robert Paul Barnes, and her daughter Rebecca Hillis. The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Sunday November 4, 2018 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave, Mentor, OH 44060. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 5 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Private interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling, WV at a later date.
