Louise M. Kocis

Louise M. Kocis, age 92 of Rocky River, formerly of Mentor, OH, passed Monday, July 7, 2025 at The Welsh Home, Rocky River, OH with her family by her side. She was born January 4, 1933 in Nashua, NH. Mrs. Kocis was a loving homemaker who created a nurturing and supportive environment for her family, one that fostered many beautiful memories. She also answered “Yes” to the call to serve others on many occasions. For nearly thirty years she shepherded the Cleveland Diocese’s Mission Circle #3, a group of women who devoted their efforts to providing spiritual and financial support to missionary priests in El Salvador, Appalachia and other communities in need. Faithfully, and with great devotion, she served those in need of compassion as a member of the Legion of Mary where she visited residents of a local nursing home to spend time saying the rosary with them and sharing friendship with those most in need of a visitor, all done in the name of the Blessed Mother. Louise was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church for nearly 60 years. Louise was an active Catholic, and alongside her husband attended weekly Eucharistic Adoration, prepared the monthly parish newsletter for mailing, served as a counter for the weekly collection, and was a long-time festival volunteer. She enjoyed playing bridge, spending time in New Hampshire and Florida, and relished her role as Gammy to her five grandchildren, always taking great joy in following their interests and activities. Survivors include her loving children: Peter (Elizabeth Handal) Kocis, Amy (Peter) Carroll and Mary Helen (Alan) Goodrich; and dearest grandchildren: Patrick, Colleen and Christopher Carroll and Molly and Hanna Goodrich; she was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Louise is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years: John Kocis; parents: Augustus and Helen McMahon; brothers: John A. McMahon and William J. McMahon; sister: Julianne McMahon. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the dedicated nurses and caregivers at The Welsh Home and Cypress Hospice for their kindness, compassionate care, and support shown to Louise during her illness. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2025 in the Gathering Center at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A funeral mass will held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2025 at the church. Interment will be in Mentor Cemetery.
