Robert A. Gawronski

Robert A. Gawronski, 92 of Mentor, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026, at The Villas at King David, Beachwood, with his sons by his side. He was born April 6, 1933, in Chicago, IL. Robert is survived by his sons: Glenn R. Gawronski of Tampa, FL, and Grant L. (Pat) Gawronski of The Woodlands, TX; beloved granddaughter: Grace (who was the greatest joy in his life); brother: Peter (Donna) Gawronski; sister-in-law: Carol Gawronski and hundreds of extended family and friends that he cared about deeply. Preceding Robert in death are his wife of 56 years: Charleen R. Gawronski, parents: William and Marie Gawronski and brothers: William, Joseph (Joan) and Gregory Gawronski. Robert grew up in Chicago and attended the University of Utah on a football scholarship. He was a loyal Ute, always cheering for Utah throughout his life. After he graduated, he joined the US Navy where he was named commander of his basic training troop at Great Lakes and then served as a Corpsman. He met his wife Charleen, also in the Navy, at St. Albans Naval Hospital in New York. Mr. Gawronski was a retired Sales Executive in the Aluminum Industry for nearly 60 years. He served as VP of Sales for Kaiser, Alumax and Alcoa, and then continued working independently into his 80’s. He was well known across the industry and dealt with everyone as a friend in addition to being a customer. Robert embraced the Mentor community in many ways, serving as a Mentor City Council member, being on the Deepwood board, and being a precinct committeeman among other commitments. He was also a lifetime member of Amvets, and a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League. In 1998, he was recognized, with his wife Charleen, as the Mentor Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Rd., Mentor, OH 44060, with US Navy Military Honors. All are invited to a celebration of life luncheon immediately following in the Father Kline Center on the church property. A private family inurnment will be in Mentor Cemetery, Mentor, OH at a later date.
