Virginia Lucille “Ginger” Middleton, 90, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025. Born on February 8, 1935, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Ginger spent her early years surrounded by family and community before moving to Richeyville, Pennsylvania. In 1953, after graduating from Jefferson High School, she moved to Shaker Heights, Ohio, which became her beloved home for many years. Ginger lived the majority of her life in Lake County, Ohio, where she built lasting friendships and cherished memories. She also enjoyed a joyful ten-year chapter in The Villages in Leesburg, Florida, where she embraced the sunshine, community, and active lifestyle that place is known for. Ginger is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Grover Middleton; her daughter, Pamela; her three younger sisters, Pat Bolek, Beverly Plut, and Charlotte Ersek; and her loving parents, William and Anna Mullen. She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Winter (David); her grandchildren, Michael (Krissy), Alex, Taylor (Michael), and Nikki; and her great-grandchildren, Noah, Aurora, and Logan. Ginger lived a vibrant life filled with laughter, hard work, and adventure. She loved golfing, bowling, going to the beach, and spending time with her family. She worked in the food service industry for many years and proudly owned a catering business with her mother in the 1970s at Tam-A-Rac Country Club in Willoughby, Ohio, where she also managed the day-to-day operations of the club. When Ginger was not managing the catering and operations, she could often be found golfing the 18 championship holes in the Tuesday morning ladies league—or enjoying a leisurely round with her husband, daughter, and friends. A talented golfer, Ginger achieved two holes-in-one during her time at Tam-A-Rac and received public recognition in the local newspaper and plaques with mounted commemorative golf balls. While living in Florida, Ginger served as League Secretary of the Women’s 600 Bowling League. A true competitor and champion bowler, she traveled across the country to tournaments, earning numerous singles, doubles, and team awards. Her enthusiasm for the sport, paired with her warm spirit, made her a beloved member of every team she joined. Ginger will be remembered for her energy, determination, and the love she shared so freely with those around her. Her laughter, stories, and unwavering support will continue to inspire everyone who was lucky enough to know her. At her request, the family respectfully shares that only a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that caregivers at Lake West Hospital be recognized and thanked for the exceptional compassion and attention they provided. During her time on the 3rd Floor, Pod B, and later on the 4th Floor hospice unit, Ginger received outstanding care from physicians, nurses, and the spiritual support team. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to all who made her feel so comforted and well cared for in her final days.
